Hello Members!
I wanted to take this time to give you some updates!
I promise it won’t be that grueling of a blog post ;) Remember, you have invested in this membership and in this community to improve your health (and even your family’s health! We have lots of families up in here! – KUDOS!) Anyway, we want you to be crystal clear on what your next steps are, what opportunities are here for you and your family (whether you are a new or seasoned member), how the facility operates and what you can expect moving forward!
So…
MORE SKILL IN ALL OUT
As many of you know, our PREP CLASSES (preparing you for WOD movements and structure) have been hard to get to, hosted with minimal availability, never seem long enough to really teach the skills reviewed, and have become more of a pain in the you-know-what than it’s initial intention. We are always trying to eliminate clutter and confusion. So, what we’re looking for is a smooth transition into the full schedule – All Out & WOD classes – for all of you and for a few things to be addressed. Let me explain.
What we’re seeing is that people are not advancing in their first few months in terms of proper form and movement mechanics as quickly as we would like to see. Many want to move faster, sooner. But are not ready. We are here to pull back the reigns, but at the same time, we WANT you to be able to move faster, sooner, so here’s the deal. Don’t get me wrong, you guys are doing great! But we’d like to speed up the process. Everyone that comes into the facility completes at least 3 weeks of All Out before we open up the full schedule of classes. Why? Well, it would be irresponsible for us to throw you into WOD classes without having gotten to know what you’re good at, what you’re not good at, what type of mobility corrections we need to make, aligning individual goals based on all those things, and on top of all that, getting you comfortable with your own body awareness and posture! 100% of our athletes need strength training, whether you like it or not, but until you’ve mastered the basics, we cannot move on to speed, intensity, nor load. To be able to do that takes catered time, discipline, and lots of good quality reps. Does that make sense?
So, how do we help athletes move better, sooner? Effective Sept. 1st, 2-3 All Out classes per week will incorporate a short skill during, or as, the daily warm-up. We won’t take time away form your workout, don’t worry! Over time, that short 5-minute skill will not only get you warmer and more acclimated to that day’s workout, but will accumulate over time and turn you guys into bad a**es. Even without Prep involved!
That’s right. I said it. We’re PREPping you EVERY WEEK to get better at moving, not just putting dedicated time on 2 Saturday’s a month of PREP and in WOD classes. Now we have it across the board! So exciting! It’s not a huge change, but it will be an effective one! But what about the Oldies but goodies!? If you have these movements down, why do you care? Well, we do too many movements for you to ever be good at them all. Don’t let your ego into your head. Since you have many of the movements down, the good man upstairs knows that speed kills so warming up more will NOT hurt you but help you in the speed department. We all want to increase our stamina, right!?
If you’re newer to the facility, having a good mix of All Outs and WODS was our original intention in adding the All Out classes (which we did a few years ago), and still is our intention. And that comes from me, a professional, someone that wants what’s best for you and cares about your progress. I don’t want you to plateau as much as you don’t want to plateau. And that goes both ways, for die hard WOD’ers like me, and die hard All Out’ers. So, take my advice and throw a different class in the mix every once in a while.
PREP TIME CHANGES
PREP is not going away completely. As a new person, this is initiating Phase 2 of your membership and it will now be hosted every Saturday at 10:30a-11:30a so that it’s easily done in one month with your crazy schedules. You only have to take it once and we will contact you when it’s time. It will include a workout and you’ll be guided properly into Phase 2 of your membership. During this session you will receive some new things
- a personal folder and Baseline sheet to measure your progress the old school way (with pen and paper)
- a way to log your workouts the new school way (Beyond the White Board, app included)
- a guided strength session and short conditioning piece that can be re-tested to get you to the next level
- a short lecture and walk through of the facility with fresh eyes to get you re-acclimated and answer questions
- a pat on the back from your Coaches and workout partners and a revived motivation to work hard going into Phase 2!
OPEN GYM
Also known as “OG”, this is a time where you can come in and do your thang! It is not a structured class time but a time to work on mobility, complete a workout you missed during the week, or work on something you’ve been striving to accomplish (pull-ups, handstands, cleans, anything!). Practice! All paying members have this luxury. We appreciate a courtesy heads up in the Facebook group mentioned below or a good ol' phone call or text if you do plan on using OG any given day. During OG Coaches are here to help out where needed but they’re also working on making this place awesome during down-time from classes OR on a Sunday OG, they’re simply here for a breakfast workout themselves! Come on in and enjoy it! Obviously, classes are the bread and butter of what we do but if you’re truly struggling to make a class time or you want to come in and do some extra work after or before your class the rules are on the wall!
Sorry, can't get Rules of the OG to turn sideways (technology baby!) But the writing is on the wall so read it when you're by the bikes, ha!
Updated OG Times: 5am-8:30pm M-T, 5am-6:30pm F, and Sundays TBD based on Coach availability.
This is your home! Come on in and use your home when you need it. We announce Sunday OG in our private “STFCCF Member Group” on Facebook. If you are a member but have not yet joined the private member group, please search for the group on Facebook and request to join! We’ll accept you in as soon as we see your request!
YOGA
Yoga will now be at 7:15a permanently, twice monthly as usual. No changes there! Yoga Jamie is the bomb. Yoga is a part of your memberships, so please use it!
LEVELING UP
I will be trialing a LEVELING UP program with 5 awesome brave souls. If you’ve been at Chester for a few years, or a few months, this is for anyone to start at any time! I want to challenge you in a progressive way. There is a small fee because it is additional programming, however, it’s something very easy for you to test on your own and start exceeding your expectations in the first month of use! At the initiation of each level you step into, you’ll be required to test out of your old one. So fun and a great way to challenge yourself outside of class! If you’re interested in hearing about the LEVELING UP program, please contact trisha@strongtogetherfitness.com and write I WANT TO LEVEL UP in the subject line. I’ll give you a call to get you started!
Cheers and I honor you for reading to the end!
PS if you read through this whole thing and still have no idea what the difference between All Out classes and WOD (workout of the day) classes are >>> Click here for a nice explanation :)
